Vito D’Orazio joined WVU in 2022 as an Associate Professor of Political Science and Data Sciences. Prior to that, he was on the faculty at the University of Texas at Dallas and was a postdoctoral researcher in data science at Harvard University’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science. He received a PhD in Political Science from the Pennsylvania State University, with concentrations in International Relations, Political Methodology, and Information Science and Technology.

His research interests span Political Science and Data Science. Topics include conflict forecasting, militarized disputes, predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing for content analysis, and software and systems development. He is a Co-PI on the Militarized Interstate Dispute project and the UTD Event Data project. His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
